Bapolisi Achille, PhD

Lead Psychiatrist, Democratic Republic of Congo

Dr. Achille was one of the few public health psychiatrists in South Kivu, DRC, serving as Senior Psychiatrist at the Neuropsychiatric Center SOSAME and Hôpital Provinciale General de Bukavu, but is now working at Saint-Luc University Clinic at Catholic University of Leuven, Brussels, Belgium, where he completed his PhD in 2022. He received a Masters in Global Mental Health from Harvard University in 2018 and completed his psychiatry training at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda. He continues as associate professor at the Catholic University of Bukavu. Dr. Bapolisi has experience in training clinics and in research in emergencies and post-conflict zones, including work with victims of SGBV and refugees. He is co-author of the book Des survivants obstinés: Panser les traumas de la guerre au Congo-Kinshasa pour aujourd'hui et demain published by Congo Lobi Lelo, in which he shares some of his own experiences surviving atrocities of war.
