Senior Community Psychiatrist
Wendy J. Bernstein, M.D.,C.M. is an Adjunct Clinical Instructor at Stanford University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, and serves as the Medical Director of the Project ECHO and telepsychiatry consultation components of our program in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo. She is the former Associate Medical Director of psychiatry at the FQHC La Clinica de la Raza (LCDR) in Oakland, California. The daughter of a refugee herself, she treated severely mentally ill immigrants and refugees, navigated complex health systems on behalf of her team, and helped implement a new EHR at LCDR during the pandemic. In addition to spending many years at the managed care organization Kaiser Permanente working in inner city settings, she also practiced geriatric psychiatry with low income seniors. She studied medicine at McGill University in Montreal, Canada and completed her psychiatry residency at Boston University Medical Center. She enjoys organic gardening and is the parent of 2 teenagers.
